Airline To Auction Seats On Inaugural Airbus A380 Flights

airbus-a380

It is an enormous, double-decker, four-engine piece of aviation machinery. Yes the Airbus A380 is truly something that makes even the bravest traveler cringe just a little bit when first laying eyes on it. Of course I want to try it out…but alas I can not afford a ticket on this amazing airplane.

But if you are able fork over the big bucks for a ride, then why not also spend the cash on a good cause? According to the Press Association of Britain, Air France is going to auction off 380 of the 538 seats on each of its two inaugural flights this fall and give the money to charity. Sounds like a good idea…just wish I had saved some extra charity cash to fly the world’s biggest passenger plane. Sigh.

The first flight will depart November 20 from Paris, France and arrive in New York. The second flight will then leave “The Big Apple” and return back to “The City of Light” on November 21. Air France has plans to expand A380 service to other cities like Dubai, Johannesburg, and Tokyo sometime in 2010.

I love those giant airbus’s! I haven’t gotten to ride one yet, but definitely next RTW trip i’m going to go out of my way and try to score a ticket on one. Not sure if I’m a huge fan of the 70′s brown leather, lol, but hey, win some lose some. Great post!

Damn that is one hell of a plane. I am scared of flying, but for some reason really want to check this airbus out.

guys i work in Airbus making the wings enjoy your filght it will be amazing this is the next gen in flight

  • Keith

Great, can you imagine how long the wait will be at immigration control, how long boarding and deboarding will take and how long baggage will take to arrive with that number of people on one plain. Personaly I wish we could make the plains faster like a modern Concord rather then go backwards with big slow plains like this. It has no appeal to me what so ever. I hate it.

  • Marc

@Keith… Slow is relative, of course. 945km/u (500kts +) is not really slow, of course. Plus, any airfield that wishes to welcome the A380 to its terminals has to do some serious adaptations on the passenger accomodation. 4 entries, 4 check-in desks, etc.
Maybe you’re a little afraid of a big bird like this one … ? Or just negative to be negative?

This bird looks like the big old plane that Howard Huges built, it might fly, it might fly well, but it looks ugly, and I think it will be anything but smooth sailing, I will choose to fly 777, 747 and 767 on long haul rides
