Best Town Square #10: Seville, Spain – Plaza de España

First of all, thanks to the people that voted in the  “Best Town Square” poll over the last few weeks on the site. It started it out with 50 town squares a few weeks ago, then 20 last week, and now here we are at the top 10.

All this week I will reveal a town square at midnight and noon. It will commence with the #1 town square, voted by you the readers, this Friday June 5. Also this Friday, I will pick the winner of the free Lonely Planet guidebook of their choice.

So without further ado:

#10: Seville, Spain – Plaza de España (1% of the vote)

Lonely Planet review of Plaza de España:

Plaza de España, a rather isolated and relaxing spot with its fountains and mini-canals, faces the northeastern side of Parque de María Luisa across Avenida de Isabel la Católica. Curving round the plaza is the most grandiose of the 1929 Exposición buildings, a brick-and-tile confection featuring Seville tilework at its gaudiest, with a map and historical scene for each Spanish province – all designed by the leading Iberoamericana architect, Sevillan Aníbal González. For more information on Seville, Spain, check out the Lonely Planet guide.

I’ll be back at noon EST with #9.
