The day before Mother’s Day this year I did what most men would do when their wife just had a baby two weeks earlier…I went on a road trip through Long Island to visit some of the sites made popular by musician Billy Joel.
Now before you send me angry emails, unfollow me on Twitter and start telling your friends that I was actually born in Queens, New York, my wife was fine with the trip and I was only out of the house for a few hours. (Plus I made it up to her with one hell of a Mother’s Day breakfast and flowers.)
The man behind this great idea was Lonely Planet‘s US Travel Editor, spokesperson and host of the 76-Second Travel Show Robert Reid. We laughed, we cried (from laughing), we drank a bottle of red, a bottle of white, devoured donuts at the Village Green and met some very interesting characters along the way (long live Johnny A. and Bob Hess).
To view the full video recap, in which Robert turns our day long road trip into 76-seconds of glory (with a few extra bonus minutes), check out his blog Reid on Travel.
We’re already planning a Bruce Springsteen Road Trip this fall around New Jersey. Stay Tuned.
