How I Got Kicked Off a Plane Due to an “Unruly Character”

I arrived Tuesday at John F. Kennedy International Airport all eager and happy to be returning overseas to check out London and Glasgow thanks to the good people at VisitBritain.

I arrived a tad bit early to my terminal due to over planning on my part. As luck would have it my cab from Brooklyn to JFK hit absolutely no traffic on the Belt Parkway and this particular driver had a led foot. So I went from door to door in about 20 minutes.

I then figured some time would be killed with checking in and going through security. Nope and nope. I flew through check-in and zipped by security…legally that is.

So I sat and waited patiently like a kid being told on Christmas eve he had to wait a few more hours until he could open his Christmas gift. Finally…finally it was 6:20pm. Boarding time! Time to fly to London!

Or so I thought.

After a small collection of passengers got onto the American Airlines flight 104, we sat waiting patiently for the pilot to take off. But instead of speeding down the runway, the pilot informed us we would be heading back to the gate and would have to deplane due to a security breach.

We all march off the plane, some grumbling under their breath and others laughing due to how silly this all was. We are now standing back at the gate in which we left at around 6:20pm and it is 8pm!

To make matters worse, an AA official said we would not be departing now until…wait for it…wait for it…9:30pm!

WTF?

Luckily I had my iPhone to keep me busy. Then at around 9:15pm we are informed that the flight is canceled and to please proceed across the terminal to another plane about to take off.

The small amount of people left on this flight jet over to the other gate only to be told that our original plane is actually going to fly to London afterall and to please head back over there.

At this point I am waiting for Ashton Kutcher to pop out of nowhere and say he Punkd our plane.

After three hours we board the plane around 9:35pm and immediately take off before 10pm.

We are then told in the sky by the pilot that an “unruly character” was the cause of all this chaos and he thanked the AA staff and a few passengers for noticing this gentleman acting oddly.

Think it couldn’t have gotten worse? Oh it did. I watched Whip It starring Drew Barrymore during my flight. What garbage!

Oh man… That must have sucked. A lot. I can feel your pain. At least you didn’t have to wait for the next day because all flights were canceled due to a storm…which happened to me.

“Unruly character”? I wonder what that means. I guess you can’t be too cautious these days. Curious if that happened on-board or back out the terminal.

Happened on the plane. Police and TSA agents came on and escorted him off. Then we had to leave the plane so they could securely check it out before departing.
