In Torrance near the headquarters for Toyota and Honda, the Miyako Hotel company has just opened a beautiful Silver LEED certified hotel. With rooms starting at $119 a night, the newly built hotel offers beautiful accommodations with an East meets West experience. The top notch staff, luxurious rooms, and Gonpachi Restaurant make it an ideal place to stay for business travelers and anyone who would like to have a modern Japanese experience while staying in Southern California.

My family loved our overnight stay at the Miyako. From the high tech toilets, Japanese style shower, deep tub in our room, to the traditional food at Gonapchi, and visit to Mitsuwa Marketplace next door, we felt like we were visiting Japan. Many of the gracious hotel staff members were Japanese and my kids loved practicing a few words with them (‘konichiwa’-hello, ‘arigato’-thank you and ‘oishi’ -yummy).

Throughout the energy efficient hotel, the natural wood, card keys by the door that regulate the room lights, and the numerous solar panels on the roof all showcase the visible aspects of the Silver LEED certification. For the level of design, service, and convenience, the reasonably prices rooms are easily as elegant as many of the luxury hotels I have visited.

Mitsuwa Marketplace is next door to the hotel. A supermarket, food court, shops and several bakeries are inside.
As much as we loved eating dinner and breakfast at Gonapahi, bargain seekers can stay at the hotel and eat at the food court next door at Mitsuwa or casual meals at Old Town Torrance nearby. Complimentary shuttles to LAX also make it a great option for people who need a great place for a layover. Just thinking about the Miyako Hybrid Hotel makes me smile. My kids want to know when we are going back. I need to learn how to say ‘soon’ in Japanese.
