I recently enjoyed a stay at one of Denver, Colorado's finest hotels.
When I found out that I would be staying at the Hotel Teatro in Denver, Colorado, I decided to do something that has become the norm when I book a hotel – I snooped around online to see what other travelers thought of the place. Well talk about an overachiever, this downtown destination is just racking up the awards and receiving rave reviews from the likes of TripAdvisor (Top 10 best pet-friendly hotels), Travel + Leisure (Top 50 large city hotels in the US & Canada), and Conde Nast Traveler (One of North America’s “Gold List” hotels for 2008).
So after reading all of the accolades online, it was time for yours truly to check into one of the Mile High City’s premiere boutique hotels. Upon entering the Hotel Teatro, I was greeted by a friendly doorman who insist on taking my bags. I kindly declined, like I always do, because I simply prefer to carry my own bags.
Upon entering the cute lobby hallway, there are two elevators directly in front of you, a restaurant to the right and check-in to your left. I was early this day and had to wait 20 or so minutes before my room was ready. No problem, as I was in no rush and now able to wander around the main floor of the hotel.

This is a shot of the lobby at the Hotel Teatro. Beautiful artwork adorns the walls and plenty of reading material is at your fingertips. Off to the right of this picture is the concierge desk, which was busy planning people's Friday night in Denver. Another cool feature in this room were the free granny smith apples available on all of the tables.

The beautiful bar located on the main floor of the Hotel Teatro. You can also order some grub when hanging out here as well. Award-winning chef and native Coloradoan, Kevin Taylor offers some mouthwatering dishes for guests at the Hotel Teatro.
Okay time to check out my room! Before going upstairs, the front desk informs me on how to use the room’s specially made key. Yes at the Hotel Teatro you will not find the usual electronic key card that most of us travelers have come to know and love. Don’t worry the key is extremely easy to use. Simply place the key into the keyhole, push in and turn left. Wait for a beep and then “ta-da”, the door will open and you will be oh so happy.

That is one helluva bed. I slept like a baby nomad.

Don't feel like napping? Then take a seat on either the plush couch or chair in your room. Love when a hotel offers this feature as I hate sitting on my bed when staying at a hotel.

An actual HD television in a hotel room. A rare but lovely feature.
Upon entering my room I was greeted by a miniature sculpture of what appeared to be an elephant (sorry not an artsy guy). A quick stroll to the left found me in the perfectly sized room. I had a great work desk, a couch, some end tables, a huge comfy looking bed and best of all a big ol’ flat-screen television. But this was not just any flat-screen, this was an HD flat-screen! As someone that travels quite often, I have been amazed and disappointed at just how many hotels provide lovely LCD and Plasma TVs, yet they do not hook it up with high definition. So Teatro got some extra points for providing yours truly with that crystal clear screen that I have become used to viewing at home.
After a long day of airport hopping, I was a worn out and extremely tired nomad. So I kicked off my shoes and hopped into my bed, which was a soft and luxurious 15″ Simmons Beverly Hills Black Edition, complete with 600 thread count custom handcrafted sheets. So comfy…tempted to sleep…but cant…must…get…out…of…bed…and…check…out…the…rest…of…my…room.
After dragging myself out of the bed, I checked out the amazing bathroom. Besides the usual features that come along with all hotel bathrooms – you know a working toilet, sink with running water and plenty of soaps – Teatro offered up something that I personally love…the rain forest shower head! Nothing is better than hopping into a shower and turning on a downpour of water.

A television in the bathroom. Oh Teatro can I please move in?

Walk-in shower with insanely enjoyable rain forest shower head.
Some of the amenities at Hotel Teatro include:
- Thirsty? Then enjoy some complimentary in-room coffee or tea.
- Aveda bath essentials are abundant in the bathroom.
- The mini television in the bathroom solves the issue of deciding whether to bathe or watch General Hospital.
- Don’t feel like hanging out in the rain forest? Then soak in Teatro’s over sized bathtub.
- iHome docking station so you can wake up on time or just simply rock out in your room.
- 24-hour in room dining.
- Complimentary daily newspaper delivered to your room (I went with the NY Times).
- All guests have free access to Hotel Teatro’s fully renovated fitness center.
- Safe available at the front desk.
- Complimentary high-speed wireless internet throughout the hotel and a business center.
- This “pet-friendly” hotel should actually be called a “dog-friendly” hotel. Teatro will accommodate Lassy or Fido, but will not allow kitty to sleep over. What’s up with that?
- Valet parking is available at $13 for the day & $26 overnight.
- Check-in is at 3pm and check-out is at noon.
Centrally located to everything that makes Denver so special, Hotel Teatro is truly something special. How close are you to some of the top attractions?
Well for starters, when I peaked out the window of my fourth floor room, I had an up close view of the Denver Center for Performing Arts across the street.

Oh, hello there Denver Center for Performing Arts.
Hotel Teatro is a 25-minute drive from Denver International Airport and a four-minute drive or 14-minute walk from Denver’s Amtrak Union Station.

Amtrak Union Station is within walking distance to the Hotel Teatro.
If you take a stroll up 14th street and turn right onto Blake street, you will find yourself outside of Coors Field, home to Major League Baseball’s Colorado Rockies.
Looking for something to eat or a night out on the town? Maybe you might want to indulge in some shopping. If so, then simply walk 0.2 miles (according to Google maps) and you will find yourself on 16th street in the historic district’s Larimer Square. I had the opportunity to walk area at night and it was bustling with tourists and locals. There are tons of places to dine, drink, and just simply relax after a long day in the city.
So next time you find yourself in colorful Colorado’s most popular city of Denver, be sure to check out the Hotel Teatro. Definitely worthy of all the attention it has been receiving.
