Orbitz Joins The Competition In Waiving Booking Fees

On Tuesday, Orbitz announced that it would waive their booking fees on flights booked through Orbitz.com and sister site Cheaptickets.com through May 31.  Fees for international tickets will remain at $10, while domestic booking fees of $7 will be suspended for spring. This move comes off the heels of the other online travel agencies pulling the same stunt last week in order to gain some business from spring travelers.

Opaque sites like Orbitz, Priceline.com, Expedia and Travelocity are all desperately trying to get through tough time in the travel industry with less people booking trips.  The companies hope to gain some momentum by pulling the booking fees and also adding more sales promotions on their respective sites. Travel experts believe that while these tactics might bring in new customers, they could also hurt the individual businesses financially.
