Appointed by Friedich Wilhelm II to represent peace, Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate is just one of the many amazing sights to see when visiting Germany’s vibrant capital city. The architectural design of this popular structure has not been touched since it debuted in 1791. The Gate was designed by Karl Gotthard Langhans, the Court Superintendent of Buildings and was for a time used as a symbol for the separation of not only Berlin, but also Germany, in two parts.
Although it may be easily the most popular and visited site in Berlin, it should not be looked at as just another tourist trap in a big city. The Brandenburg Gate is worth a visit to when in Berlin. The gate is a historic piece of German architecture and now stands strong today as the symbol of the reunification of the two sides of this European country.
