Saturday Travel Shot: The Pitons in St. Lucia

The Pitons are two volcanic plugs located in Saint Lucia and was added as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

Each Piton has a name, which are the Gros Piton (pictured above), which stands at a massive 771 m tall and neighboring Petit Piton, which is 743 m tall.

Both are connected by the Piton Mitan ridge.

When visiting Saint Lucia, be sure to head to one of their watering holes and order up a Piton beer, which is the preferred local adult beverage of choice and was named after the volcanic plugs. Piton beer has been brewed in St. Lucia since 1992.

I was married and honeymooned with the Pitons in the background. We stayed at Crystals, in Columbette, right up the road from Soufriere. Gorgeous people, magical land. You can order a half-case of Piton beer in the market in Soufriere. It’s ‘served’ in a plastic milk carton and when you’re done you return the empties in the carton for a refund. I can’t wait to go back!
