Send Me Somewhere Results – Week Seven

No live music and BBQ for me this go around. Austin has been eliminated.

No live music and BBQ for me this go around. Austin has been eliminated.

…and then there were two. After seven weeks of voting for where to send me on my next trip, only two cities remain. If you have been following the voting each week than it should come as no surprise that both Montreal and New Orleans are now in the finals. That means Austin joins Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, Chicago, Quebec City, San Diego and Vancouver, which were all taken down by your votes each week.

What surprised me the most about this voting was that for all seven weeks, either New Orleans (weeks 1, 3 and 4) or Montreal (weeks 2, 5, 6 and 7) were in first place. Voting will last two weeks and on January 1, 2010 the announcement will be made about which city I will check out on an upcoming trip early next year.

So which French influenced city will get your vote? Will it be Montreal? Perhaps New Orleans?

Update – January 1: The winning city has been announced. Click here to find out where you are sending me.

Results:

Montreal: 50%

New Orleans: 29%

Austin: 21%

As much as I love Montreal (and I do love Montreal), I hope New Orleans wins. That city desperately needs our tourist dollars to rebuild its economy and its city. Montreal doesn’t have the same need. The people of New Orleans are extremely hospitable; you can’t help but have a good time there. Besides, it’ll be a lot warmer in NOLA than Canada. :-)

The poll said that votes were disabled for the poll. :-/ Montreal.

Your votes will count. Just disabled results in order to keep the announced on January 1 as more of a surprise. Thanks for the vote.

I am getting a 500 error Servlet Exception when I try to vote. It is probably the server I am on here in India. But I am all for Montreal.

I have results blocked, which may be the reason you saw that. But your vote has been counted since you left me a comment here. Thanks for voting!

I had a pretty wild time in Montreal a few years ago, it gets my vote.

I am all for New Orleans! I went there earlier this year and… It. Was. Amazing! It was two weeks before Mardi Gras, and I had the time of my life! Go, go Big Easy!!

Montreal! I’ve been dying to go myself. If you go to Montreal, I can travel vicariously through you. :)

As much as Ilove New Orleans, my vote goes for Montreal. I would strongly suggest you come to Montreal in May or June. You must go cycling on what is considered one of the world’s best urban cycling networks and you must become a BIXIclist (www.bixi.com). Also, Cirque du Soleil will be presented a new road show at that time in the Old Port of Montreal. The F! racing circus will be in town in June, which may be another incentive. If you must go earlier, I would suggest in February while the Montreal Lights Festival goes on.

Thanks to everyone that has left a comment so far. The voting is close as of Wednesday evening. Expect the results up sometime during the afternoon on January 1. For the record, I have been to Montreal before and it was mid February with temps reaching 32 below. Luckily the underground city enabled me to travel through it to restaurants, bars and the mall. I stayed at the Fairmont hotel and had one of the best creme brulees ever. I have yet to walk the streets of New Orleans, but do not let that sway your votes as I would love a return visit to one of the best cities in North America.

Not sure when the trip will happen as I have a planned trip already to London and Glasgow scheduled for the last week in January and then Paris sometime in April or May. But whichever city I do visit, it will be a long weekend trip. Thanks again for the votes and best in 2010.
