Megabus Offering One Hot Deal This Fall

Posted by Andrew Hickey on Aug 5, 2009 in Travel

megabusIn these tough economic times many people can not afford to book a plane ride or hop aboard a train and take a vacation. But one company is hoping to assist those individuals that are strapped for cash, but still want to get in a little traveling in 2009.

The low-cost Megabus has just announced that they are adding an additional 50,000 $1 fares to their itineraries that include such cities as New York, Chicago, and Boston.

You must enter the code “HOTDEAL” when ordering your seat and be willing to take that bus ride between September 14 and November 19, 2009.

The $1 seats will be available on all of the 30 cities that Megabus departs from during the sales period and is subject to availability. Now while I have never used this service, I know many people that have done so and loved it. That George Washington that you fork over entitles you to a double-decker bus that comes equipped with recliner seats, air condition, Wi-Fi access, and even an on-board bathroom. That should convince even the pickiest traveler to use a bus on their next trip.

For more information on fares and routes, check out Megabus.com and tweet with them @MegaBus.

Some Summer Sales Ending Soon

Did you forget to take advantage of Southwest's summer sale? Well you have until this week to book and save.

Did you forget to take advantage of Southwest's summer sale? Well you have until this week to book and save.

Here are a few items that have been floating around my desk. I felt the need to get them to you ASAP, so that you may enjoy the savings…and buy me something nice when you are on your next vacation:

  • Delta Summer Sale: The airline is offering up some low fares in a system wide sale. What’s more, Delta will even slap on an extra 500 bonus miles if you book your flight through delta.com. Some cities Delta flies to include Denver, Baltimore, Charlotte, and Boston. I spotted a nice looking New York-New Orleans one-way fare for just $89 (before taxes and fees). Click here to take a look at all the cities included in the sale and act now, because this sale ends May 18.
  • AA Chicago Sale: Looking to visit the Windy City within the next few weeks? Maybe you are trying to get a break from Chi-Town and want to go on a quick vacation. Good news, because American Airlines just announced a Chicago air sale to and from the Second City. Fares start at $42 one-way and include such cities as New York, Nashville, St. Louis, and more. You must book by May 15 and travel by June 24, click here for more details.
  • Southwest Summer Sale: As I mentioned here a few weeks ago, Southwest is having a great summer sale. But if you want to still take advantage of it, then you have until this Thursday May 14 before the sale goes bye-bye. Fares start at $49 one-way and offer travel to such cities as San Diego, Las Vegas, New York, and more. Click here for more information.

Luck of the Irish this Thursday on Southwest Airlines.

Southwest goes green with their "Spot the Leprachaun" promotion.

Southwest goes green with their "Spot the Leprachaun" promotion.

Although St.Patrick’s Day is next Tuesday, Southwest Airlines will be celebrating some Irish cheer early aboard their fleet this coming Thursday. Passengers flying between Dallas, San Antonio, Harlingen, Chicago, Kansas City, Tulsa, Denver and St. Louis may encounter some festive and generous pixies along the way. In Southwest’s “Spot the Leprachaun” promotion, three green sprites will play in-flight trivia, give out prizes, and hand over their pot of gold: round-trip tickets on Southwest.  And all this time I thought leprechauns flew Aer Lingus.

Speaking of Southwest, they are currently running a Spring Fever Sale with low fares to top U.S.  destinations.  You can travel between March 24 and June 24, but must book by March 16. Fares starting as low as $39 one-way (before taxes and fees).
