Travel Blog Rewind: What I’ve Been Reading Online

Be kind, please rewind.

Be Kind, Please Rewind

With 3,402,493 travel blogs online (that number is accurate, no need to double check), it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming and time consuming to check each and site out. So each week I will provide you with a little “Travel Blog Rewind” of what I thought was worthy of passing on to you. Read them, Stumble them, hug them, trade them with your friends and enjoy.

Christine Gilbert over at Almost Fearless has a great blog post entitled “Terrible Travel Advice – That I Never Took” which covers some of the worst travel tips given to her that she thankfully never used.  One of them, “travel before you have kids” is one that I also find laughable. I plan to travel with my little one to many…MANY places. Already working on his passport.

Laurie DePrete is new to the blogging scene and her website Travel By Laurie offers some great tips and reviews on places she has visited. Her recent story on Mexico City caught my eye and made me want to book a round-trip from JFK to  Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México ASAP. Here is part one and part two.

It is great to see how far Stephanie Yoder has come with her travel blog in such a short amount of time. Feels just like yesterday (or roughly seven months ago) that she did a Guest Nomad story for this site on Five London Day Trips.  But over at her blog Twenty-Something Travel, Stephanie asked her readers “Where Would you Like to Revisit?” Personally I would like to check out more of Florence, Italy as I only had two days to spend there. Oh and of course Paris.

When I am not burping my baby and writing or reading about travel, you can find me in a dive bar. I grew up on them, as my first encounter with a hole in the wall was at the tender age of 15 growing up in Rockaway Beach, New York. Gadling put together a great list of “19 Perfect Dive Bars.” I visited one of their recommendations Malachy’s many, many times after 3am years ago.

So what exactly does Wes Nations from the blog  Johnny Vagabond do all day? Find out when he recaps one of those “do nothing” days in “Just Another Day in Cambodia.”

Finally, any blog story that involves food and travel makes me happy. Matthew Kepnes (aka Nomadic Matt) wrote a guide on Greek Food that is sure to have you screaming Opa!

Excellent choices. Really like Christine Gilbert’s work and some of these sites I had never even heard of before. Thanks!

I am not that into travel, but started following your site a few months ago since you gave so many awesome NYC tips and I am in Jersey. You now gave me even more websites to check out while I am at work. The dive bars article is outstanding. Thanks Andrew!

Thanks Rachel. Glad you enjoyed my picks. I look forward to showcasing a mix of the popular and lesser known travel sites out there. Spread the love. =)

A Jersey guy reading a Brooklyn site? Glad I was able to turn you on to more things to distract you from working. Always love to slow down productivity.

Love these picks and it is about time you did a blog carnival/round-up etc. Always love to see what other travelers and writers are reading online.

Thanks. Glad you liked this week’s choices. They’re all good sites run by some passionate travel nuts like yours truly.

Now I want Greek food in Mexico City dive bar. Guess I read some of your recommendations back to back too quickly. =)

  • Andrew Hickey

Thanks Alex. There is probably a dive bar somewhere in Mexico City that could cook you up a gyro if you asked nice enough.

    Great roundup!

As a dive bar aficionado, I can’t believe I haven’t been to a single bar on that list. I’m going to have to visit that one in Cusco during my rtw adventure.

Great reads. How’d you come up with that number? Seems a bit low ;)

That information is highly confidential and locked away in a vault. Sorry.
